Let Him Build Your Week
“Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.”
Psalm 127:1 (KJV)
Good mornin’, child. Monday’s here, and the whole week’s layin’ out in front of us like fresh lumber. Grab your coffee and sit a spell.
Forty-some years I built cabinets and houses, and I learned one thing the hard way. You can have the finest oak and the sharpest chisel in the county, but if the foundation’s off, every door you hang will stick. I once spent a whole week fixin’ a kitchen that never would sit right. Turned out the floor under it had settled. Wasn’t nothin’ wrong with my work. It was what my work was sittin’ on.
That’s what this verse is tellin’ us. You can work hard all week, and you should. But if the Lord isn’t the one buildin’ it, we’re just stackin’ boards on sand. Before you start your list this morning, ask Him to lay the foundation. Your job, your family, your plans for this week, hand Him the blueprints first.
My sweet wife used to say, “Ezra, pray before you measure.” I’d grin and say a carpenter’s supposed to measure twice. She’d say, “Then pray twice.” I reckon she had it right.
Let’s Pray
Lord, this is a brand new week, and I want You to build it. Lay the foundation under my work, my home and my heart. Keep watch over the ones I love, and keep me from laborin’ in vain. Let everything I do this week rest on You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
You’re loved more than you know.
